Uniform Release Schedule

UT rolled out its new Adidas look in a four‑day blitz from July 6 through July 9. Orange, white and Summitt Blue sets were revealed early in the week, while the dark mode version dropped on July 9 with a dramatic video titled “Darkness comes for all.” Store availability kicks off July 10, and fans can expect the classic Smokey Grey design to follow later in the season. The roll‑out follows the teasers from the 2024 “Venom” video.

Performance History in Black Alternates

From 2009 through the 2025 season, Tennessee posted a 5‑2 mark in its black alternate kits. The successes include a 31‑13 win over South Carolina in 2009, a 45‑20 triumph over the Gamecocks in 2021, a 44‑6 victory against Kentucky in 2022, a 41‑20 win over South Carolina in 2023, and a 28‑18 defeat of Kentucky in 2024. Those victories contrast with two setbacks: a 41‑17 loss to Georgia in 2021 and a 33‑27 defeat at Oklahoma in 2025.

Adidas Partnership Overview

The new era began July 1 under a 10‑year blockbuster contract that positions UT as a flagship university for the brand and bolsters the Vols’ NIL strategy. This agreement marks the return of Adidas as official footwear, uniform, apparel and sideline partner, ending an 11‑year run with Nike. Adidas previously served as the Vols’ apparel provider from 1995 to 2015, giving the brand a long‑standing connection to the program.

What Dark Mode Means for the Team

The dark mode aesthetic fits into a broader push to modernize the program’s visual identity and tap into fan demand for striking alternatives. Historical data shows a winning trend when the team appears in black, with five victories and only two losses over 12 games. The new look is expected to further energize the fan base and reinforce the Vols’ competitive spirit on the field.
