Rockies Stumble Again at Oracle Park, Fall 8-2 to Giants
Feltner’s Inconsistent Start
Ryan Feltner struggled through 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while walking four batters and striking out just three. The right‑hander threw 92 pitches, with 53 recorded as strikes, but his command seemed off early in the outing. Despite long at‑bats and missed locations, Feltner managed to keep the Giants at bay for a few innings before trouble mounted. After the game, manager Warren Schaeffer noted Feltner “looked like he didn’t have much feel for the ball early on; the command was a little shaky.”
Giants Build Early Leads
San Francisco struck first in the second inning when Casey Schmitt launched a solo home run. The Rockies briefly tied the score after a two‑run blast by Willi Castro in the fourth, giving Colorado a 2‑1 advantage. However, the Giants responded quickly: Bryce Eldridge tied the game with a home run, then Luis Arraez drove in the go‑ahead run with a double in the fifth. Rafael Devers plated another run with a single, and Willy Adames sealed the victory with a two‑run home run in the eighth.
Rockies Offense Sparks Briefly
Colorado’s offense produced five hits but could not sustain momentum, averaging roughly one base hit per inning. Braxton Fulford chased a ball to the warning track, and Jake McCarthy plus Kyle Karros drew walks to load the bases in the third. The Rockies showed patience with four walks overall, yet they stranded runners in scoring position five times. Their bat heated up for a short stretch, highlighted by Castro’s two‑run homer, but the Clutch hitting was inconsistent throughout the night.
Late Inning Blowout
The bullpen tried to contain the damage after Feltner’s early exit, with Victor Vodnik recording three strikeouts and allowing a single in the sixth. Rookie TJ Shook took the ball in the seventh, but Arraez singled and Schmitt doubled to bring home runs, and Devers’ double extended the lead to 6‑2. Adames’ two‑run home run in the eighth made it 8‑2, a deficit the Rockies could not reverse in the ninth despite a pair of singles. Shook’s six hits surrendered proved most costly as the Rockies suffered their seventh straight loss in San Francisco.
Series Preview
Both clubs look ahead to the next contest on Friday night. The Rockies will turn to Tanner Gordon (0‑2, 6.95 ERA) while the Giants counter with Robbie Ray (8‑6, 3.45 ERA). First pitch is slated for 8:15 pm MDT, giving fans another chance to watch the rivalry unfold.
