Stage One Route Details

The opening stage of the 2026 women’s Tour of Britain begins in Cockermouth and returns there after covering 98.7 miles (158.9 km) of varied terrain.

Riders will confront a cumulative ascent of almost 6,300 ft (1.9 km) while navigating the rolling countryside.

The course passes through Frizington, Whitehaven, Lowca, Workington, Flimby, Maryport, Allonby, Silloth, Wigton, Caldbeck and Aspatria, offering Irish Sea views that could bring gusty cross‑winds on exposed sections.

The race ends with a 16.1‑mile (26 km) circuit around Clints Crags, threading past Watch Hill and Ruddings Hill before the final sprint.

Cumbria’s Role in International Events

Council leader Mark Fryer praised the route as a showcase for the region, highlighting the “amazing” towns and natural scenery.

He noted that Cumbria will also host a start and finish of the men’s Tour de France next year, reinforcing its reputation as a premier venue for global cycling.

Fryer called the invitation “great news” and said it proves the area’s capacity to attract top‑tier competitions.

Stage Two moves from Clitheroe to Blackpool, while Stage Three runs from Mold to the Great Orme and Llandudno.

Stage Four links Llanidloes to Hay‑on‑Wye, and Stage Five concludes in Royal Leamington Spa.

The entire 2026 edition spans roughly 395 miles (635.8 km), marking the longest distance ever covered in the women’s Tour.
