Mourinho’s Top Signing Request Snubbed by Real Madrid

Real Madrid’s Summer Frenzy: New Faces, No Midfielder

New signings bolster Real Madrid

Real Madrid have confirmed four arrivals ahead of the 2026‑27 campaign: Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva. All four have signed officially and are expected to travel to Madrid shortly. The additions mark a busy period for the club, reflecting its ambition to strengthen several positions. Mourinho, however, remains unsatisfied with the current roster.

Defensive depth still a concern

Mourinho has expressed a desire for at least two more signings, specifically a centre‑back and a midfielder. Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck are among the centre‑back names linked to the Bernabéu. Despite interest, a deal for either player appears unlikely to materialise this summer. The lack of a new centre‑back leaves the backline without an obvious upgrade.

Midfield puzzle persists

Real Madrid’s interest in Enzo Fernández was publicly dismissed earlier this month, removing Mourinho’s preferred midfield target. Meanwhile, Aurélien Tchouaméni has agreed a new five‑year contract, making it almost impossible for the club to add another midfield star. To accommodate a new midfielder, the club has indicated that one existing player must be sold. The only realistic candidate is Eduardo Camavinga, but the French midfielder has informed officials he will not entertain any offers, keeping him in‑house despite Mourinho’s reservations.

What it means for next season

With no new midfielder arriving, Mourinho will have to work with the players already at his disposal, relying heavily on Camavinga even though he does not view him as a key option for the 2026‑27 season. The squad’s depth in the engine room may be tested against top‑class opponents, limiting tactical flexibility. The club’s transfer strategy now hinges on internal development rather than external investment. This approach could shape Mourinho’s plans throughout the campaign.
