Felix Okpara Debuts for Wizards in NBA Summer League

The NBA Summer League opened Thursday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, with the Washington Wizards topping the Utah Jazz, 92‑88. Former Tennessee forward Felix Okpara made his Summer League debut for the Wizards, earning a starting nod and logging 20 minutes on the floor. He posted four points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal, while converting just two of his six field‑goal attempts. The contest featured two of the league’s top scorers: AJ Dybantsa poured in 27 points, and Darryn Peterson added 24 points for Utah.

Okpara’s Path to the NBA

Okpara was drafted by Orlando in the second round (46th overall) on June 24, then was promptly traded to Washington. The 6‑foot‑11, 243‑pound forward spent two seasons at Tennessee from 2024‑26, appearing in 73 games with 72 starts. He became the first Volunteer in 2024‑25 to start every game, setting a new single‑season record for his school. Okpara also joins an elite group of Tennessee players who recorded two 50‑block seasons, alongside Grant Williams, Kyle Alexander and C.J. Black.

Statistical Snapshot and Outlook

Against the Jazz, Okpara committed two turnovers and added three personal fouls during his stint. His four points came on a 2‑of‑6 shooting performance from the field. The Wizards will keep him in the rotation as the Summer League runs through July 19, giving scouts a look at his interior play and defensive versatility.
