Jürgen Klopp in Talks to Lead Germany’s Men’s Team
Negotiations with the German FA
Klopp met with German football officials at an airport hotel in New York on Friday, a report by Bild said. The encounter featured DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and vice president Hans‑Joachim Watzke near JFK Airport and lasted more than four hours. Photographs show Klopp and his agent Marc Kosicke alongside Neuendorf and Watzke with luggage at the building entrance.
While in the United States, Klopp has been working as a pundit for MagentaTV during the World Cup. DFB representatives flew in from Frankfurt for the discussion. The German federation is looking to replace Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned after the team was eliminated in the World Cup last‑32 stage.
Klopp has indicated he would be open to the position, making a deal likely. Media outlets anticipate a contract that could run through the 2030 World Cup, with a salary just above Nagelsmann’s current pay. He is bound to Red Bull as global head of soccer until 2029, though a release clause exists if the DFB makes an offer. Talks with Red Bull to end his tenure are scheduled for next week.
A successful move would see him step down from his role at the drinks group while staying on as a brand ambassador. The potential hire could reshape German national football and set a new coaching benchmark. Observers view the talks as a significant step toward rebuilding the national side after recent setbacks.
Germany’s Road Ahead
The first German internationals after three straight World Cup failures are lined up for September and October. The Nations League slate opens with a fixture in the Netherlands, followed by matches against Serbia and two games versus Greece. These games will provide an early test of the new manager’s vision and tactics.
