Warriors’ NYU Draft Picks
The Golden State Warriors have built a legacy largely on the NBA draft, acquiring many of their greatest talents through the annual selection process. While the team’s history is dotted with players from top schools, a handful of prospects emerged from New York University. These two selections underscore how the franchise has occasionally reached into less‑known programs to find potential contributors.

Joel Kaufman, a guard, was selected in the 1950 NBA Draft, landing in the ninth round as the third pick of that round, ultimately chosen 99th overall. He spent three seasons developing his game at NYU before the Warriors decided not to keep him on the roster. His brief stint with Golden State never materialized, and he moved on to other pursuits.

Barry Kramer, a forward, entered the 1964 NBA Draft and was taken in the first round, selected seventh overall. He played three years with NYU before joining the Warriors, where he logged a single season. His draft selection highlighted the team’s willingness to reach for talent from less‑known programs.
Both selections illustrate how the Warriors have occasionally relied on smaller colleges like NYU to add depth to a roster built largely through the draft. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.
