Vogel’s new role will focus on shaping the Warriors’ defensive schemes, a responsibility previously handled by Chris DeMarco and Stackhouse.

Vogel’s Coaching Lineage

Vogel spent the last campaign as an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks under Jason Kidd, adding to a résumé that includes a 2020 NBA championship with the Lakers. He guided the Lakers to the title by beating the Miami Heat in six games during the NBA bubble, ending the franchise’s 10‑year title drought. Earlier, Vogel led the Indiana Pacers to two Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013 and 2014.

Staff Changes at Golden State

Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse were among Kerr’s top assistants before their departures. In January, Chris DeMarco also left for the New York Liberty, taking the role of head coach there. Vogel’s addition replaces the defensive leadership that DeMarco and Stackhouse provided in recent seasons, giving the Warriors continuity in that area.
