Gideon Mensah Joins FC Koln on Two‑Year Deal
Free‑Transfer Exit from AJ Auxerre
The 27‑year‑old Ghana defender has confirmed his departure from AJ Auxerre, moving to FC Koln on a free transfer. The switch was announced on Saturday, with Mensah signing a two‑year contract in Germany. He leaves after four seasons in which he became a pivotal figure for the Bourgogne side.
Four Seasons of Service at Auxerre
Mensah arrived at Auxerre from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2022. Over the next four campaigns he logged 114 appearances, helping the club secure promotion back to Ligue 1 in 2024. His consistent performances also kept Christophe Pélissier’s team in France’s top flight for the last two seasons.
World Cup Spotlight for Ghana
Before heading to Cologne, Mensah enjoyed a strong run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Ghana. He shone in the group stage, notably delivering a clean‑sheet performance against England. Those outings have added to his reputation as a reliable exponent at the international level.
New Chapter in the Bundesliga
With his Auxerre contract expiring this summer, Mensah opted for a fresh challenge in German football. The two‑year deal with FC Koln marks his first experience in the Bundesliga. The move positions the Ghana international to continue his development on a larger stage.
