Rahul Dravid Weighs ETPL Ownership vs Coaching Dreams
Dublin Guardians Co‑ownership Joins European T20 League
At 53, Rahul Dravid is no longer just a former player – he is now **co‑owner of the Dublin Guardians** in the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL). The league is scheduled for 26 August to 20 September, with matches staged in **The Hague** and **Dublin**. Dravid described the venture as a one‑month commitment that lets him explore a different role each summer.
Dravid’s Coaching Record and Recent Resumé
His playing days included 164 **Tests** and 344 **ODIs** for India. He coached the national side from 2021 to 2024, guiding them in 24 **Tests** with a record of 14 wins, 7 losses and 3 draws. Under his stewardship India reached the **2023 World Test Championship** final. Most recently he led **Rajasthan Royals** as head coach for the **2025 Indian Premier League** season.
England’s Race for a New Test Coach
Following the decision to sack **Brendon McCullum**, England are actively searching for a successor. The aim is to have a new man in place before the three‑Test series against **Pakistan** begins on 19 August. The timing puts any potential candidates, including respected figures like Dravid, in a delicate position. Dravid’s strategic reputation makes him a plausible, though unexpected, contender.
What the Timeline Means for Both Roles
In a BBC interview Dravid said he would “certainly” consider coaching again if a good opportunity arose. He emphasised that the ETPL occupies only a month of his calendar, freeing up the rest of the year for other pursuits. If an enticing coaching role materialises, he is ready to weigh the options carefully. The overlapping schedules force him to balance ownership duties against any new coaching ambitions.
