Brewers Draft Texas State Mora, Astros Take Galloway
Chase Mora lands with Milwaukee
The Brewers chose Texas State’s all‑time home‑run leader, Chase Mora, 281st overall in the ninth round of the 2026 MLB draft. The 22‑year‑old was drafted as a right‑handed pitcher despite having thrown just 1⅓ innings in college, his lone appearance a May outing against UTSA where he struck out one batter and allowed zero runs. Mora arrived at Texas State in 2022 as a two‑way talent, hitting 17 home runs as a freshman after recovering from Tommy John surgery. He later eclipsed New York Yankees infielder Paul Goldschmidt’s mark to become the Bobcats’ career home‑run record holder, thanks in part to a go‑ahead, two‑run blast that sealed a 5‑4 win over USC in the College Station regional. Brewers officials praised his bat speed, though they will have to groom him as a pitcher given his limited experience on the mound.

Houston adds Rashawn Galloway
Rashawn Galloway, a senior right‑field fielder for Texas State, was taken by the Astros 481st overall in the 16th round. Galloway posted a .318 batting average with a .948 on‑base plus slugging percentage, collecting 11 home runs and striking out 23 times over 264 at‑bats. His versatility on defense—drafted as a catcher—should help him transition through the minor leagues, where he’s expected to focus on contact hitting rather than power. Over his college career, injuries limited his playing time, but the 2026 season saw him emerge as the Bobcats’ best all‑around hitter. The Astros view his experience at multiple positions as a valuable asset for depth in their system.

What this means for Texas State baseball
Two selections in the 2026 draft underscore the BoBCC’s rising profile after a season marked by clutch performances and national exposure. Mora’s record‑tying home‑run haul and Galloway’s balanced bat provide the program with a narrative of player development that scouts now recognize. The Brewers and Astros have placed early bets on two‑way talent and defensive versatility, trends that could influence other programs recruiting players with multiple skill sets. Texas State’s ability to produce power hitting and positional flexibility suggests the Bobcats will remain a steady pipeline for MLB talent moving forward, potentially boosting recruiting interest for the next recruiting class.
