Panthers Eye Colby Parkinson as 2026 Tight End Target
Why Carolina Needs a Playmaking Tight End
The Panthers currently lack a high‑end pass‑catching option at tight end. Ja’Tavion Sanders and Tommy Tremble have struggled to provide reliable receiving production. Without a reliable target, quarterback Bryce Young’s development is hamstrung by limited options down the middle. A proven pass‑catching tight end could change the dynamics of Carolina’s offense and give Young a trusted weapon.
Colby Parkinson’s Breakout Season
Los Angeles Rams tight end Colby Parkinson enjoyed a career‑defining year in 2025, scoring eight touchdowns—almost double his total from the previous five seasons. His best‑known moment came in the Rams’ wild‑card victory over Carolina, a 19‑yard touchdown that gave Los Angeles a 34‑31 lead with 38 seconds left. Parkinson spent his early years with the Seattle Seahawks under the same head coach, Dave Canales, who is now piloting the Panthers.
The Rams’ Crowded TE Room
The Rams feature a deep group at tight end, including Tyler Higbee, Terrance Ferguson, Davis Allen and rookie Max Klare. All four appeared in at least 31 percent of the snaps last season, leaving limited targets for Parkinson. With the surplus, Carolina could pry Parkinson away for a mid‑round pick in the 2027 draft. Such a deal would give the Panthers a proven passer while allowing the Rams to shed salary and upgrade their draft capital.
Can a Familiar Face Work in Charlotte?
Given Canales’ prior relationship with Parkinson, the former Seahawks product might find a more welcoming fan base in Charlotte. A trade would also address a glaring weakness on the Panthers’ roster and provide Young with a legitimate receiving threat. If the deal materializes, Panther fans could soon see a player once reviled at Bank of America Stadium become a key piece of the franchise’s rebuilding effort.
