Team USA’s Solheim Cup Practice: Who’s Still on the Bubble?

U.S. Solheim Cup Captains Scout Players in Netherlands

Early Training Session at Bernardus Golf

With no tournament on the schedule this week, Team USA captain Angela Stanford seized the lull to bring a batch of her top contenders to Bernardus Golf for an early workout. The group that gathered for the Netherlands visit included Rose Zhang, Lucy Li, Lilia Vu, Allisen Corpuz, Jennifer Kupcho, Auston Kim, Lindy Duncan and Lauren Coughlin. Stanford spent roughly 48 hours in the region, giving the players a chance to feel the course before the real selection crunch begins.

While the European side will lock its roster after the AIG Women’s British Open, Stanford moved her deadline later, extending it past the CPKC Women’s Open scheduled for August 20‑23. This shift leaves four LPGA events remaining for American golfers to improve their standing. World No. 1 Nelly Korda has already secured a spot and was not present at Bernardus, but the top seven names on the Solheim Cup points list automatically qualify, along with the highest‑ranked two players in the Rolex Rankings who are not already on the list. The captain also holds three discretionary picks to fill any gaps.

Current Top Contenders

The present top eight on the points list are Korda, Angel Yin, Jennifer Kupcho, Auston Kim, Allisen Corpuz, Yealimi Noh and Lauren Coughlin. Behind them sit the two highest Rolex Rankings amateurs: Andrea Lee (No. 34) and Lindy Duncan (No. 56), who also sit at Nos. 8 and 9 in the points order. If the team were finalized today, both Lee and Duncan would be on the roster. The next two Americans in the Rolex hierarchy are Jenny Bae (No. 58) and Alison Lee (No. 62), both still vying for a spot.

Allison Lee, who rejoined the U.S. squad in 2024, is aiming to earn a return after the birth of her son Levi last April. She balanced motherhood with a strong run on the tour, posting three top‑5 finishes in her last seven events. The former college star missed time to visit her baby between the Evian and Scottish Open, proving she can compete at the highest level while juggling family.

Who’s Gaining or Falling Behind

Newcomer Megan Khang, once touted as a rising star, missed the cut at the Amundi Evian and slid to No. 71 in the Rolex Rankings, though she sits 11th in Solheim Cup points. Lexi Thompson, who has been sidelined since June with a hip injury, currently stands 14th in points and 126th in Rolex, marking a steep drop from her usual standing. Rookie Melanie Green opened the season with back‑to‑back top‑10 finishes but has cooled off since, now ranking 113th in Rolex after her standout British Amateur victory.

Lucy Li, now 115th in Rolex, was part of the 2018 Curtis Cup team alongside Andrea Lee and Lilia Vu, a two‑time major winner who has struggled with consistency, missing the cut in seven of her last eight events. The fresh talent and veteran presence at Bernardus illustrate the depth of U.S. golf heading into the final four tournaments of the season.

The selection window is now in high gear, and each remaining event could shake up the automatic qualifiers and captain’s pick positions. With Stanford’s flexible deadline, the four tournaments left on the LPGA calendar will serve as crucial tuning points for golfers still fighting for Solheim Cup inclusion. The early glimpse at Bernardus offers a preview of who is prepared to step onto the international stage next year.
