Julian Alvarez Keeps Arsenal in the Transfer Mix
Arsenal Re‑ignite Interest in Argentine Star
According to SPORT, Arsenal have not abandoned their pursuit of Julian Alvarez. The 26‑year‑old forward signalled a change in his future plans during the group stage of the World Cup when he spoke of fulfilling a “dream.” While he never named a club, the message was clear: he would prefer to wear the Barcelona shirt. Those comments have strained his relationship with Atletico Madrid, making it increasingly hard for the Spanish side to keep him beyond this summer.
The diplomatic fallout has created an opening for Arsenal. A report suggests that Atletico would rather sell Alvarez to an English club than reinforce a direct domestic rival. As a result, the Gunners believe they still have a genuine chance to land the Argentine. Arsenal are already preparing another approach before the start of pre‑season, confident there is room to sway both Atletico and the player.

Previous Offers and Rejection from Atletico
Arsenal’s latest push is far from their first attempt. Last summer, during the Club World Cup, the Gunners submitted an offer worth €100 million plus €20 million in bonuses. Atletico refused to even enter negotiations, opting instead to promise the player an improved contract. Those plans never fully materialised because the club invested heavily elsewhere.
Arsenal returned during the winter transfer window, even after completing the signing of Viktor Gyokeres. The North London side received the same response from Atletico, leaving them to try once more.
Why Arsenal Still See Reason for Optimism
Despite repeated setbacks, Arsenal continue to find reasons for hope. Manager Mikel Arteta has long rated Alvarez and enjoys strong ties to members of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff, giving him detailed insight into the striker’s qualities. The club’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, also carries weight; he previously worked at Atletico and helped convince Alvarez to join in 2024, even with interest from PSG.
Arsenal believe that Berta’s history with the Argentine and his knowledge of Atletico’s negotiating stance could prove valuable again. The club is convinced that both the player and the selling side can still be persuaded.

Barcelona’s Deadline and Alternative Plans
Time is an unexpected ally for Arsenal. Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, has repeatedly stated that the club’s offer will not stay open forever. The Blaugrana are unwilling to let negotiations drag through the summer and have already begun evaluating backup options should Atletico refuse to deal.
Despite the pressure, Barcelona firmly believe they are in pole position to sign the Argentine international. They understand Alvarez has no desire to return to the Premier League after his spell at Manchester City from 2022 to 2024. Inside the club, confidence runs high that his ambition to wear the Blaugrana shirt will ultimately outweigh Atletico’s resistance.
The situation remains fluid, with all three clubs monitoring each other’s moves. Arsenal’s renewed push, Barcelona’s firm stance, and Atletico’s delicate position will shape the final outcome before the summer window closes.
