49ers Star Missing from ESPN’s 2026 Top-10 List

Mike Evans Misses ESPN 2026 Top 10, Lands Honorable Mention

Evans’ Deal and Struggling 2025 Season

The 33‑year‑old receiver signed a three‑year, $60.4 million contract with the 49ers in March. Last year he appeared in only eight games because of a hamstring injury and a broken collarbone. Evans finished the campaign with 30 catches for 368 yards and three touchdowns, his worst numbers in 12 seasons and the first time he failed to break the 1,000‑yard mark.

New Role in San Francisco’s Offense

San Francisco lost Jauan Jennings to free agency, clearing the way for Evans to become the clear No. 1 target for the 49ers. Analysts believe the designated red‑zone and end‑zone duties could push Evans toward a league‑leading touchdown total. Tight end George Kittle called Evans the first legitimate WR1 the team has featured in recent memory.

What Scouts and Coaches Think

An NFC scout described Evans as “declining, but sort of timeless,” noting he remains big, athletic and capable of getting open. The scout added that Kyle Shanahan’s utilization of the veteran could produce interesting results. Despite the dip in performance, the scout still sees potential for the six‑time Pro Bowler.

Historical Ranking Context

Evans enjoyed three consecutive top‑10 finishes from 2020 through 2022 on ESPN’s list. He fell out of the poll in 2023 before re‑emerging at No. 8 for 2024 and landing at No. 9 last year. This year he was omitted from the top 10 and placed among seven honorable mentions, a shift from his recent standing.

2026 Hopes for the 49ers

San Francisco is counting on Evans to outperform the skepticism from rival NFL decision‑makers and help keep the playoff hopes alive. If he can recapture his receiving efficiency and finish with a high touchdown tally, the team’s offensive depth could improve noticeably. The expectation is that a strong season from the 33‑year‑old will reinforce his status as the franchise’s top receiving option.
