Deion Sanders Aims to Revive Colorado Buffaloes
Health Recovery Fuels Coaching Focus
Colorado finished 3‑9 last season, a disappointing finish that left fans and analysts questioning the program’s direction. Coach Deion Sanders spent much of that year fighting bladder cancer, diverting attention from his coaching duties. This year, he says his health is stable, allowing him to concentrate entirely on leading the Buffaloes, a shift that could influence the team’s performance.
Sanders Returns Swagger and Energy
“I’m feeling darn good,” Sanders said at the Big 12 Media Day. “I had lost so much darn weight and I didn’t want anybody to know. I was going through it. I wasn’t me. I’m thankful this year that I’m me. I’m all me. I’m happy, I’m elated, I’m excited.” The quote underscores his physical rebound and mental reset. In a separate interview with Bruce Feldman of TheAthletic.com, Sanders declared, “I got that swagger back, I got that dog back, I got that charisma back.” He added, “I was 15 pounds down, but I’m now ready. I’m back, baby! I cannot wait to get back on that sideline. I’m excited about this season.”
High Stakes for Colorado’s Season
Sanders must produce a noticeable leap; another season with only three wins would spark serious doubts about his ability to turn the program around. The Buffaloes will be under the spotlight as they open the schedule, with expectations that the coach’s renewed health and confidence translate into better results on the field. Overcoming those expectations will be crucial for both Sanders and Colorado’s future.
