Parkinson Denies Moreno’s Wrexham Move

Wrexham Linked To Fiorentina Defender Matias Moreno

Speculation Over Matias Moreno

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has refused to comment on rumours linking the Championship club with Argentine defender Matias Moreno. Reports claim an agreement has been reached with Fiorentina for the 22‑year‑old, but Parkinson kept his cards close. He noted that signing every player they are linked with would swell the squad to about 40 members. Parkinson emphasized the squad’s focus remains on the current group of players.

Building the Squad for a Second Championship Year

Wrexham are gearing up for another campaign in the Championship after missing out on the play‑offs last May. The pre‑season plan centres on reinforcing the core team assembled in the previous term and extracting more from each senior player. Parkinson described the early weeks as a period to prioritise fitness over match results. He added that any new signing would need to genuinely improve the squad’s quality.

Friendlies and Schedule Highlights

The team launched pre‑season with a 0‑0 draw against Polish side Wisła Kraków. Their first major fixture will be against Manchester United at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday. The following week they travel to the United States for matches against Leeds United in Tampa and Liverpool in New York. The pre‑season schedule closes on 2 August with a game against Sunderland.

Fitness and Development Plans

Parkinson said most of his squad are where they need to be in terms of fitness. A handful of players will rejoin later due to lingering issues from the previous season. He praised the 45‑minute game format used in training for managing minutes and recovery. The manager also highlighted the appeal of playing at the Olympic Stadium and the upcoming trip to America.
