He highlighted strong personal connections with Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad as key reasons. “CSK, Mahi bhai’s influence, the franchise itself, and my friends there, especially Ruturaj, meant I had great connections,” he said. Samson described the trade as a turning point, noting that the negotiations involved multiple parties agreeing on a swap. The frustration led him to channel his emotions into intense net practice, determined to prove his worth.

His breakthrough arrived when wicketkeeper Dishant Yagnik suffered an injury, opening a window for Samson. He made his debut against Punjab (then KXIP) and secured a win for the Royals. In that match he scored 27 not out batting at number six and contributed three or four dismissals behind the stumps. However, Yagnik’s recovery meant Samson was dropped for the following game, underscoring the competitive nature of the squad.
