Wilder’s Career at Bramall Lane

Wilder, a 58‑year‑old boyhood supporter, even played for the club before stepping into the manager’s seat in 2016. In nearly five years at the helm, he guided Sheffield United to promotions from League One and the Championship, and secured their best Premier League finish of ninth. He has since overseen almost 450 games, cementing his reputation as a steady hand at Bramall Lane.

Previous Clubs and Return

Before his first stint as head coach, Wilder spent time at Middlesbrough and Watford, gaining broader experience. He returned to Bramall Lane last September on a contract that was originally due to run until the following summer. In December 2023, he replaced Paul Heckingbottom, stepping into a club that was then underperforming.

Recent Campaign and Goals

The 2023‑24 season proved difficult; Wilder could not stop the team’s relegation from the Premier League. Sheffield United finished third in the Championship but fell short in the play‑off final, losing to Sunderland at Wembley. The Blades ended the campaign in 13th place, their lowest position in nine years.
