Keon Johnson Shows Versatility in Magic Summer League Win
Game Highlights
Orlando bested Boston, 103‑97, on July 18 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Magic trailed at halftime but mounted a strong third quarter to pull away. Malik Reneau paced the winners with 19 points, while Au’Diese Toney added 18 and Will Baker contributed 15. Caleb Grill led the Celtics with 18 points in the consolation contest.
Johnson’s Statistical Line
Keon Johnson logged 11 minutes off the bench for Orlando, posting a modest line of 7 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist. He hit 2 of 4 field goals, including 1 of 2 from three‑point range, and converted his only free‑throw attempt. The former Tennessee product showed quickness and defensive tenacity in his brief stint.
Magic’s Balanced Attack
Beyond Johnson, the Magic displayed depth with Reneau’s 19 points, Toney’s 18, and Baker’s 15. Their collective scoring opened up lanes for Johnson’s defensive contributions. The win was part of a solid performance in the NBA Summer League showcase.
Draft Journey and College Roots
Johnson was selected in the first round of the 2021 NBA draft by the New York Knicks and later dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers for a No. 25 overall pick. He spent one season at Tennessee, averaging 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 2020‑21. A two‑time Tennessee Mr. Basketball honoree at Webb School in Bell Buckle, Johnson’s high‑school success set the stage for his college and professional career.
