PJ Tucker offered a controversial take on the Jaylen Brown trade while taping the Club 520 Podcast at Fanatics Fest. While most analysts, including NESN’s Jake Mozarsky, think the 76ers secured a better package, Tucker believes the Celtics got Paul Georgeās net value. āIf you look at the playoffs series this year, PG might have had a better series than JB,ā Tucker said, highlighting Georgeās impact.
Tucker added that Georgeās suspension for violating the NBAās antiādrug program could have altered the calculus. He also noted that George, at 36, is older than Brown, who is 29, and has battled injuries throughout his career. āIf PG donāt get suspended and all that stuff donāt happen, then I think weāre having another conversation,ā he observed. The age and health concerns make Georgeās availability a question mark.
During the sevenāgame series against Boston, George posted 17.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while defending both Brown and Jayson Tatum. He was praised for his defensive effort and ability to rise on the biggest stage. If the Celtics can coax that level of play out of George, losing Brown will sting less. The latter part of the season showed George can still be a differenceāmaker.
