Chase Frey Transfers to Oregon Baseball, Adding LHP Power

Oregon Ducks Add Left‑Handed Pitcher Chase Frey

New Arms bolster Oregon’s Rotation

Mark Wasikowski’s staff has been busy scouring the transfer portal for hidden gems, and the Ducks have struck again. The latest addition is left‑handed pitcher Chase Frey, who announced his commitment on Instagram. Frey comes to Eugene after a standout junior season at Grand Canyon, where he posted a 4.79 ERA in 13 games (12 starts). He will be the second pitcher to sign on this offseason, joining USC transfer Michael Ebner.

Frey’s journey has been a series of moves, beginning in Las Vegas with Shoreline Community College. He spent his sophomore year at College of Southern Nevada before landing at Grand Canyon for his junior campaign. At Grand Canyon he logged 67 ⅔ innings, recorded 69 strikeouts, and finished the season with a 1.14 WHIP, earning All‑Mountain West Second Team honors. He also tossed a complete‑game shutout at Fresno State, allowing just two hits and striking out eight batters.

The Oregon rotation faces uncertainty as the 2026 MLB draft approaches on July 11. Returning stars Cal Scolari and Miles Gosztola could be selected, leaving spots next to Will Sanford wide open. Frey, with his developing stuff and big‑game experience, looks like a logical candidate to fill a critical role. Coach Matt Florer has a track record of turning promising arms into reliable starters, so his impact could be pivotal for next season.

Even if Frey decides to stay, he remains eligible for the upcoming draft, adding an extra layer of intrigue. His commitment gives Oregon depth while they wait to see how the draft shuffle reshapes the landscape. The Ducks will now turn their focus to integrating the Las Vegas native into the fall camp schedule. If the development mirrors that of Scolari and Gosztola, the program could see a solid addition to its rotation.
