WBA Heavyweight Title: Gassiev vs Kadiru as Yoka withdraws

Murat Gassiev to Defeat Peter Kadiru in Moscow

New Challenge for Gassiev

After Oleksandr Usyk stepped away from the unified heavyweight crowns, Murat Gassiev was promoted to full WBA champion. The Russian, already a two‑division king, now holds the WBA belt while the IBF title remains up for grabs. His reign began with a brutal sixth‑round knockout of former challenger Kubrat Pulev in December.

Kadiru Steps Up from the German Scene

Peter Kadiru (23‑1, 13 KOs) has gone nine straight wins since his lone career loss, a first‑round knockout to journeyman Marcos Antonio Aumada in late 2022. The German has never competed at the global heavyweight level, making Saturday’s late‑notice bout a major leap for him. His most recent contest was a May decision win over Senad Gashi.

Heavyweight Landscape Under New Light

Gassiev’s record at heavyweight stands at 8‑1, with the sole defeat coming against Otto Wallin in a 2023 IBF eliminator. He previously ruled the cruiserweight division until ceding the belts to Usyk. Meanwhile, Agit Kabayel (WBC) and Daniel Dubois (WBO) sit atop their respective titles.

IBA Pro announced the fight will take place Saturday in Moscow, giving Gassiev his first title defense against a relatively unknown opponent. The event marks a fresh test for Gassiev as he looks to solidify his status among the heavyweight elite. Fans can expect a clash of styles as Kadiru steps into a premier ring for the first time.
