Terrion Arnold Cleared Waivers, Can Sign with Any NFL Team

Terrion Arnold Clears Waivers, Becomes NFL Free Agent

Terrion Arnold, a Detroit Lions cornerback, is now a free agent after clearing waivers on Monday.

The former first‑round pick was released by the Lions on June 29 following an arrest tied to an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping that occurred back in February.

Arnold posted a $1 million bond, secured his release from Hillsborough County Jail on June 30, and promptly moved through the waiver system, making him eligible to sign with any NFL roster.

Legal Battle Over GPS Monitoring

The prosecution pushed for a GPS tether to monitor Arnold, but Chief Judge Christopher Sabella denied the request.

The defense argued the tether would hamper Arnold’s ability to practice and play football, a concern amplified after the Lions cut him loose.

Interest From Multiple Teams

Harvey Steinberg, Arnold’s attorney, reported that three NFL clubs had already contacted the player.

Steinberg forecast a signing within 30 days, indicating strong market interest for the cornerback.

What Clearing Waivers Means

Once a player clears waivers, no compensation is required for any team that signs him, allowing clubs to acquire talent without giving up draft picks or other assets.

This process often speeds the movement of veterans entering free agency, as it did for Arnold.

Arnold’s rapid transition from a courtroom to the open market underscores how quickly legal issues and roster decisions can intersect in the NFL.
