Giants’ Latest Move

The Giants bolstered their defensive front on Tuesday by securing C.J. Ravenell through the waiver system. The former Titan had been released from Tennessee’s injured‑reserve list just a day earlier, leaving the organization willing to let him go. Ravenell spent last season with the Titans, appearing in 14 contests and posting six tackles plus a forced fumble.

Fresh off his June placement on injured reserve, the player is now heading to New York with the hope of contributing to the Giants’ defensive line. General roster rules require teams to clear a spot before adding a new name, which is why the Giants waived defensive back Rico Payton. The transaction carries an injury designation, signaling that Payton’s path back to the active roster may be limited.

Rico Payton’s Tenure

Payton joined the Giants in 2024 and recorded 12 tackles across nine games. He also spent part of that season with the Saints, appearing in 16 games for the New Orleans club. The Giants often adjust their defensive back lineup based on performance and injury status.

What It Means Moving Forward

The acquisition of Ravenell gives the Giants added depth on the line, an area where injuries can force rapid adjustments. By adding a player who has experience at the next level and a forced fumble under his belt, New York aims to strengthen a unit that often sees high rotation. The Giants will now monitor both Ravenell’s health and Payton’s status as they prepare for the upcoming preseason and regular season.
