Connor Berg and Jace Shaw Rev Up Recruiting for Petoskey

7‑on‑7 Kicks Off Summer Football

Petoskey hosted Boyne City, Harbor Springs, East Jordan, Cheboygan and Benzie Central on Tuesday, July 7 for a 7‑on‑7 passing league night. This event marked the first football action of the summer at Northmen Stadium, giving the squad a chance to get reps early. The competition featured several high‑school teams and gave college coaches a glimpse of local talent before the fall season.

More images captured the intensity of the drills, with each snap offering a fast‑paced look at the players’ chemistry and arm accuracy. Fans and recruits alike got a preview of what Petoskey’s offense can do when the full squad hits the field later in the year.

Connor Berg’s Comeback Gains Momentum

Connor Berg entered his senior season as a 6‑foot‑5, 250‑pound offensive line prospect who missed his sophomore year due to a knee injury. After returning, he added roughly 20 pounds, reporting he’s faster and jumping farther than ever before. Berg is now drawing offers from Grand Valley State, Michigan Tech, Saginaw Valley State, Northern Michigan and a preferred walk‑on spot with Western Michigan.

Teams are evaluating Berg as an athlete, saying he could line up at tackle, center or even tight end. He’s also been running routes this summer to showcase his versatility to recruiters. “Every team has told me they’re recruiting me as an athlete,” Berg said, underscoring his growing appeal across divisions.

Jace Shaw Shows Versatile Skills

Jace Shaw, a 6‑foot‑2, 200‑pound defensive edge, had a breakout junior season with 50 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, four sacks and an interception. This spring and summer he’s added more weight, aiming for about 210 pounds, and is drawing offers from Olivet and Hope College. Shaw’s athleticism also shines on the basketball court and track, where he competes in events ranging from pole vault to sprints.

Shaw’s camp experience includes the Big Man Camp, where he impressed in full‑pad drills and earned praise for his explosiveness. He’s eager to keep building his resume and hopes more Division I programs take notice. “It’s great to get offers,” he noted, “knowing a team wants me to play there is a great honor.”

What It Means for the Northmen

The summer grind for Berg and Shaw reflects a broader trend of high‑school prospects using camp circuits to showcase their talents. For Petoskey, having two senior contributors generating buzz could boost the program’s recruiting class and give the coaching staff leverage in future negotiations. Fans can expect more exposure as the duo continues to hit camps across Michigan, from Central Michigan to Ferris State.

Looking ahead, both players aim to add weight and refine their skill sets for the upcoming season. Their continued recruiting momentum signals that the Northmen could see stronger offensive and defensive lines in the fall. Stay tuned for more updates on how Berg, Shaw and the rest of Petoskey’s roster shape up for the next cycle.
