5-Star WR Monshun Sales Chooses Indiana Football

Indiana Lands Top Recruit Monshun Sales

Top‑Tier Wide Receiver Joins Hoosiers

Lawrence North five‑star wide receiver Monshun Sales, once known as “Bama” because of family ties to Alabama, committed to Indiana on Friday, ending speculation that he would choose Alabama or Texas. The signing marks the most prized recruit in Indiana football history, a program that has risen under coach Curt Cignetti. Sales announced his decision on the nationally televised Pat McAfee Show, sealing his future with the Hoosiers.

At 6‑5 and 205 pounds, Sales brings a proven track record to Bloomington. As a junior he recorded 37 receptions for 794 yards and nine touchdowns, and he added 56 tackles as a safety. As a sophomore he caught 34 passes for 568 yards and seven scores, helping his team finish 11‑1 and ranked No. 1 in Class 6A.

Sales’ decision was influenced by Indiana’s recent success. He watched the Hoosiers defeat Alabama, Oregon and Miami on the path to a national championship, a feat that changed his perception of the program. Former Lawrence North receiver Omar Cooper Jr., now at Indiana, and current teammate Davion Chandler have kept Sales informed about the Hoosiers’ culture.

From Youth Football to College Spotlight

Coach Pat Mallory, who guided Sales in youth football, says he saw the player’s potential early on. “I told him it was going to take a lot of hard work to get where he wants to go,” Mallory recalled. Sales’ development spanned four years at Lawrence North, where he earned a reputation as a high‑impact playmaker.

The recruitment surge around Sales did not overwhelm him, according to his high school coach. Mallory emphasized that Sales listened to those who care about him most, making a choice that reflects his own aspirations rather than outside pressure.

Impact on Indiana’s Recruiting Class

Sales becomes the centerpiece of a 17‑player class that now includes Brownsburg four‑star receiver Branden Sharpe, Noblesville three‑star tackle Mason McDermott and Michigan City three‑star offensive lineman Jeremiah Jones. Indiana’s resurgence under Cignetti, highlighted by two College Football Playoff appearances and a national title, has created a narrative of ambition that attracted Sales.

His commitment caps a turnaround that would have seemed unlikely before Cignetti arrived in November 2023. The Hoosiers’ ability to compete with and defeat traditional powerhouses opened doors that were previously closed, persuading Sales to choose Indiana over his other top finalists—Alabama, LSU, Ohio State and Texas.
