Monshun Sales Signs With Indiana
Sales Announces Commitment on Pat McAfee Show
Monshun Sales, a five‑star wide receiver from Indianapolis’s Lawrence North, told viewers on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he will play for Indiana. The Rivals ranking places him as the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2027 class. Sales eclipsed Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and LSU with his decision, choosing to stay in his home state.
Indiana, which has become a hub for transfer portal moves, also landed its first five‑star signee out of high school. According to The Athletic and On3, no player of his rating has pledged to the program in recent memory. Sales said the connection with coach Curt Cignetti helped clinch the commitment.
Cignetti’s Honest Pitch Wins Over Sales
Sales praised coach Curt Cignetti for being “a straight up guy” who does not sugarcoat expectations. He explained that he wanted a leader who would make him work for everything rather than give empty promises. The authenticity of Cignetti’s approach was the deciding factor for the recruit.
Hoosiers Come Off a Historic 16‑0 Season
Indiana finished the 2025 campaign 16‑0, following a remarkable turnaround in Cignetti’s first year. The team moved from Big Ten underdogs to a College Football Playoff qualifier and proved they were more than a fluke the next season. The success also included a top‑rated NFL Draft pick, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza.
The draft also featured former Lawrence North star Omar Cooper Jr., selected by the New York Jets in the first round. Both players highlight Indiana’s rising reputation on the field.
Sales’ High School Production
Before committing, Sales recorded 794 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in his junior season while averaging 21.5 yards per catch. He played at Lawrence North, the same school that produced Cooper Jr. Sales also showcased the ability to block like a safety and contribute on defense.
Rivals Scout Charles Power’s Evaluation
Charles Power, director of scouting for Rivals, compared Sales to Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr. Power described him as “a vapor trail on vertical routes” with the potential to “take the top off of defenses with regularity.” He praised Sales’ tracking, physicality, and competitive nature while noting areas for continued growth.
The evaluation also noted Sales still adds nuance as a route runner and could become a mismatch in contested situations. Power suggested the player might develop into the top wideout in the current recruiting cycle.
What This Means for Indiana
Securing a five‑star recruit of Sales’ caliber signals that Indiana’s recruiting momentum is expanding beyond the transfer portal. The addition could give the Hoosiers a dynamic weapon for the pursuit of another national championship in 2026. If Sales develops as Power predicts, he may become a cornerstone of the program’s future success.
