Atlanta Dream Stars All-Star Reserves
Dream’s Strong Representation
Atlanta Dream players are the most represented among the newly announced All‑Star reserves. Angel Reese, Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray each earned a spot after being voted by the league’s 15 head coaches. The Dream, however, has zero starters, a fact that left Reese feeling “disrespectful.” Reese’s third All‑Star appearance joins Gray and Howard, who are each appearing for the fourth time.
Other Elite Picks
Joining the Dream trio are several high‑profile players from other franchises. Washington Mystics guard Sonia Citron and forward Kiki Iriafen, Los Angeles Sparks teammates Kelsey Plum and Nneka Ogwumike, Las Vegas Aces guard Jackie Young, New York Liberty forward Jonquel Jones and Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams round out the reserve list. Toronto Tempo guard Marina Mabrey and Seattle Storm center Dominique Malonga also made history as first‑time All‑Stars, pairing with starters Olivia Miles and Jessica Shepard.
Selection Process
The reserves were chosen by WNBA head coaches who vote for three guards, five frontcourt players and four players at either position, regardless of conference. Coaches were barred from casting ballots for teammates. This system ensures a balanced representation across the league’s roster.
Milestone and History
Nneka Ogwumike’s inclusion marks her 11th All‑Star nod, tying three‑time champion Diana Taurasi for second most in league history. Four‑time champion Sue Bird holds the record with 13 selections. Ogwumike’s consistency highlights her status as a veteran leader on the Sparks.
Plum Controversy
Kelsey Plum’s omission from the starter lineup sparked heavy scrutiny, especially since she was the league’s leading scorer before a lower leg injury sidelined her. Player voting was later revealed to be incomplete, with only about 85 of the league’s players casting ballots. Several Sparks athletes reported they never received a ballot before the tally was finalized.
Game Info
The All‑Star contest will take place at the United Center in Chicago on July 25. Fans can expect a high‑scoring showcase featuring the reserves highlighted above. The event marks a key mid‑season spotlight for both emerging talents and seasoned stars.
