Florida Panthers Equipment Manager Arrested, Suspended

Thaddeus “Teddy” Richards, the Panthers’ equipment manager, was taken into custody on July 17 in Coral Springs, Florida. He faces misdemeanor battery and domestic violence charges along with misuse of 911 services, and is being held at the Broward County Jail in Fort Launderdalle. No bond amount has been set according to court records, leaving his release pending further legal steps.

The NHL franchise immediately suspended Richards from all team activities and facilities while an investigation proceeds. Panthers officials released a brief statement confirming his indefinite suspension effective immediately. Richards has been a fixture with the club since the 2016‑17 campaign, overseeing equipment for back‑to‑back Stanley Cup wins in 2024 and 2025.

Beyond his NHL role, Richards also serves as an equipment manager for USA Hockey. He contributed to the gold‑medal U.S. men’s team at the 2026 Milano‑Cortina Winter Olympics, as well as the 2026 IIFH World Championship and the 2025 Four Nations Face‑Off. His work spans more than a decade across professional and national programs.

Richards previously worked with the Pittsburgh Penguins during their 2015‑16 Stanley Cup run, marking another high point in a long career. The Panthers praised his expertise in winning titles, while law‑enforcement proceedings continue to shape his immediate future.
