Barca Target Off Table as Atletico Keeps Firm Stance

Atletico Keeps Refusing Julian Alvarez to Barcelona

Negotiations Take a Twist

Earlier in the day Barcelona saw a glimmer of hope regarding Julian Alvarez, after reports suggested Atletico Madrid were considering a sale to a direct rival. Yet a new bulletin from MARCA disproves any softening, confirming Atleti have not altered their stance at all. The Argentine star was told the Camp Nou move is impossible, despite Atletico’s own financial needs.

Atletico’s Transfer Plan

Atleti need to raise funds for a summer rebuild, targeting a net investment of around €80 million. The club is already set to sign Alejandro Grimaldo, Kang‑in Lee and Morten Hjulmand as part of that plan. Potential sales include Thiago Almada, Alexander Sorloth, José María Giménez and Matteo Ruggeri to generate cash.

Efforts to bring in additional talent will hinge on the ability to sell key assets, and the club’s hierarchy has made it clear that Alvarez is not for sale. This rigid stance persists even though the squad’s performance on the pitch may fuel speculation about a move. Barcelona will have to accept that the path to securing the Argentine remains blocked for now.

Alvarez’s World Cup Performance

While the transfer drama drags on, Julian Alvarez has struggled to make a mark at the World Cup for Argentina. He featured in the comeback win over Egypt but offered little impact against a compact defence. His limited minutes and indifferent showing are likely to weigh on Barcelona’s thinking.
