Barry Wesley Named Saints Player of Day 69 Ahead of Kickoff

Barry Wesley Steps Into No. 69 for New Orleans Saints

With 69 days left before the regular season, New Orleans will travel to Detroit for its Sept. 13 opener. The Saints are putting the finishing touches on their offensive line as Barry Wesley, a 27‑year‑old undrafted rookie, dons No. 69 at training camp.

Who Is Barry Wesley?

  • Name (age): Barry Wesley (27)
  • Position: Offensive tackle
  • Height, weight: 6-foot-7, 310 poinds
  • College: Colorado State Rams
  • Relative Athletic Score: N/A
  • Drafted: Undrafted in 2022
  • 2026 salary cap hit: $885,000

From College to Multiple Development Leagues

Wesley spent four seasons at Colorado State, starting 38 games at both tackle and guard. After going undrafted in 2022, he tried his hand at the National Arena League with the Massachusetts Pirates, then joined the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL in the spring of 2023. He moved to the Atlanta Falcons later that year, signed, was released, re‑signed to the practice squad, and spent part of the season on injured reserve before returning to Atlanta for 2024. That offseason saw him sign with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL, where he played ten games before the Saints brought him in during the 2025 offseason.

Saints Journey and Current Outlook

A preseason hip injury forced New Orleans to place Wesley on injured reserve to open the 2025 campaign. He returned before a Week 13 contest against Miami, but did not record any snaps and was released, only to be reclaimed for the practice squad for the remainder of the year. At the end of the season, the Saints re‑signed him on a reserve/futures deal, giving him a chance to compete for a spot on an improved offensive front. His versatility at both tackle and guard gives him a modest edge, and he is expected to see reps at each position as training camp progresses.

What It Means for the 2026 Season

Barry Wesley’s arrival at training camp adds depth to an offensive line that is preparing for a revamped interior. He will battle for a backup role at tackle or guard, offering the Saints a versatile option as they fine‑tune their scheme for the 2026 campaign. His 2026 salary cap hit of $885,000 provides a measured investment, while his background in arena football, XFL, and short stints with Atlanta and the UFL gives him a unique perspective that could prove valuable under New Orleans’ development system.
