NASCAR Cup Race at EchoPark Speedway Halved by Weather
Race Called Off by Severe Weather
The race at EchoPark Speedway near Atlanta was abandoned when a severe weather system moved in, prompting officials to clear the track and grandstand after lightning was spotted within eight miles. The red flag fell at lap 108 in Stage 2, ending the event before the full 260‑lap distance could be completed. Because NASCAR requires 130 laps for a race to be official, the finish will be based on the order at the moment of the stoppage.
Key Driver Positions Before the Delay
Ryan Blaney, the pole winner, held the lead when the weather中断 occurred, with teammate Joey Logano alongside him on the front row. Austin Cindric, also from Team Penske, was running third early and gave Ford a strong start. Bubba Wallace was second, Tyler Reddick third, Christopher Bell fourth, and Chase Elliott fifth; Elliott had won the summer race at Atlanta the previous year.
Denny Hamlin, the series points leader, qualified 28th and climbed to 15th despite the late‑race stoppage. Tyler Reddick, who captured victory at EchoPark in February as part of a five‑win streak in the season’s first nine races, started only 31st but was already fourth by lap 35, hinting at another competitive performance. His early charge underscored his status as a championship contender.
Next Stop: North Wilkesboro Speedway
The Cup Series heads to North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, next weekend, setting up fresh competition after the weather‑shortened Atlanta event. Christopher Bell recently edged Joey Logano at North Wilkesboro Speedway in the NASCAR All‑Star Race on May 18, 2025, indicating the tight battles expected in the upcoming round. Fans can expect another showdown as drivers chase points and track victories.
