Bob Mangine To Receive Cincinnati Bob Goin Service Award
Longtime Bearcats Trainer Honored for Lifetime Dedication
Cincinnati Bearcats senior associate athletic director and physical‑therapy residency director Bob Mangine will be presented with the Bob Goin Service Award on Oct. 23. The ceremony will take place during the Hall of Fame weekend that marks the 50th anniversary class of the James P. Kelly Athletics Hall of Fame. The event is scheduled for Friday night, just before the Bearcats host Texas Tech in a football game.
Career Span and Professional Milestones
Mangine’s résumé stretches back more than four decades in sports medicine. He first arrived at the University of Cincinnati in 1976, working with both the football and men’s basketball programs. By 2002 he was already the director of rehabilitative services, and in 2005 he took over the football training duties. Over the years he helped build the Cincinnati Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in 1982, later ran his own clinic before merging it with NovaCare Rehabilitation in 1998.
Impact on Athletics and Community
His influence reaches far beyond the campus. While at UC he partnered closely with former team surgeon Dr. Angelo Colosimo, a fellow inductee of the Bob Goin Distinguished Service Award in 2023. Mangine earned a 25‑year honor from the National Athletic Trainers Association and served as head athletic trainer for the aquatic teams at the 1996 Olympics and three Goodwill Games. He is also a charter member of the Sports Physical Therapy Section Hall of Fame and the Covington Catholic High School athletics hall.
What This Recognition Means Going Forward
Today he holds leadership roles as the national director of sports physical‑therapy clinical residency for NovaCare and president of MBM Consultants, which provides educational services for therapists. Those positions allow him to shape the next generation of practitioners while continuing to oversee year‑round health and wellness for the Bearcats. The upcoming award highlights how his blend of clinical expertise and program stewardship has become a cornerstone of Cincinnati athletics.
