Johnson Returns to Boston
Amir Johnson inked a two‑year, $24 million contract with the Celtics today, marking a fresh start for the Los Angeles native. Johnson, drafted 56th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft, spent six seasons with the Toronto Raptors and four more with the Detroit Pistons before joining Boston. During his time with the Celtics he averaged 6.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.9 blocks per game. Celtics Trade Moves on This Date
Boston swapped guard Chris Babb and forward Gerald Wallace for Golden State Warriors big man David Lee today. Lee appeared in just 30 games with the Celtics, posting averages of 7.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists before being waived. Babb and Wallace added depth to Golden State’s roster, while the trade marked another roster adjustment for Boston’s front office. The deal underscored the Celtics’ focus on rebuilding after a stretch of inconsistent play.

Jonas Jerebko’s Celtics Anniversary
Today also marks the anniversary of Swedish forward Jonas Jerebko signing a three‑year, $14.5 million deal with the Celtics. Jerebko, nicknamed the “Larry Bird” by fans, had spent five seasons with the Detroit Pistons before joining Boston. He contributed 4.6 points and 3.8 rebounds per game during his tenure with the Celtics. After his Boston stint, Jerebko became a free agent and signed with the Utah Jazz in 2017.
Birthdays of Former Celtics

Al Butler shares the same birthday; the forward was selected 17th overall in the 1961 NBA Draft and logged just five games for the Celtics before his rights were sold to the New York Knicks. Ron Grandison, a power forward who signed as a free agent in 1988, spent a single season with Boston, averaging 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds per game. These alumni mark different eras of Boston basketball, yet each left a modest imprint on franchise history.
