Arsenal Ink £34m Deal for Christos Tzolis
Why Tzolis Fits Arsenal’s Plans
The north London side have agreed a roughly £34 million fee to bring the 24‑year‑old winger from Club Brugge, replacing the outgoing Leandro Trossard who is moving to Besiktas.
Tzolis is viewed as a high‑impact replacement after a standout campaign that helped Brugge clinch the Belgian Pro League title and secure Champions League qualification.
His previous stint at Norwich City ended poorly, but the Greece international has turned his career around, showing the kind of consistency Arsenal need on the left flank.
Stat Sheet: A Top‑Tier Talent
Last season he posted 22 goals and 29 assists across all club competitions, placing him third overall for combined goal involvements in Europe.
Only Harry Kane (68) and Michael Olise (54) recorded more goal contributions, while Tzolis led the continent in expected goals plus expected assists, edging out players such as Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.
He also topped the charts for goal involvements among wingers, finished second for shots on target, and ranked third for chances created, proving his involvement was pivotal whenever Brugge attacked.
Context: Belgian League Exodus
The transfer will make Tzolis the most expensive sale in the history of the Belgian Pro League, overtaking names like Charles De Ketelaere, Ardon Jashiri, Igor Thiago, Jonathan David, Tolu Arokadare, Jeremy Doku, Youri Tielemans, Sander Berge and Wesley.
While some of his countrymen have become regular starters in the top‑five leagues, none have been labelled true A‑grade talents, suggesting Tzolis could be a rare breakout star for English football.
His move marks another chapter in the league’s pattern of exporting its brightest youngsters to richer markets.
What Lies Ahead for the New Signing
Having already demonstrated he can deliver at the highest club level, Tzolis now faces the challenge of recreating that form in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s recent recruitment of Trossard from Brighton in 2022 showed they value versatile, impactful options, and they appear to be applying the same formula with the Belgian winger.
If Tzolis can adapt to the Premier League’s physical demands, he could become the missing piece that propels Mikel Arteta’s side deeper into European contention.
