First-Round Pick: Dolphins Urged to Trade Before Week 1

Dolphins Urged to Trade for Xavier Legette Before Week 1

Receiver Shake-Up Hits Miami

Over the past few months Miami has overhauled its receiving corps. The franchise moved on from four proven options: Jaylen Waddle was traded, while Tyreek Hill, Nick Westbrook‑Ikhine, Cedrick Wilson Jr. and D’Wayne Eskridge were all released. The departures left a void that the Dolphins are trying to fill with new talent.

New Signing Arrivals

To reshape the group, Miami brought in five free‑agent targets. Tutu Atwell, Jalen Tolbert, Terrace Marshall Jr., Jalen Reagor and Donaven McCulley signed with the team. In addition, the club added Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr. through the draft. Despite these moves, many analysts still view the Miami receiving room as thin and in need of a proven threat.

Why Xavier Legette Could Help

Malik Willis, the Dolphins’ quarterback, will need reliable targets to succeed in a limited‑budget roster. Bleacher Report analyst Moe Moton has suggested a mid‑round pick in the next draft could secure former Panthers wideout Xavier Legette. Legette, 25, spent five seasons at South Carolina, earning All‑SEC honors and posting a breakout year with 71 catches for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.

His NFL career so far has not matched the first‑round expectations set by the Panthers when they selected him 32nd overall in 2024. In two seasons he has 84 receptions for 860 yards and seven scores across 31 games. A change of environment, Moton argues, may be exactly what Legette needs to rediscover the form that made him an All‑SEC standout.

Draft Picks Added

The Dolphins’ 2026 draft class includes Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman Jr., all selected to bolster depth at wide receiver. While these players could develop into contributors, they currently lack the proven production that Legette brought in college. Analysts will monitor their progress, hoping they can fill the gap left by recent departures.

Moe Moton’s Trade Suggestion

Moton’s recommendation centers on a trade that would cost Miami a mid‑round pick in the next draft, likely 2027. Acquiring Legette would give the Dolphins a 6‑foot‑3, 210‑pound target who can stretch the field and create mismatches against cornerback and safety. Such a move would address the immediate talent gap and provide a potential long‑term asset without blowing the budget.

The Dolphins still have limited cap space, but a calculated swap for a player who has shown flashes could provide the missing piece needed before the season’s opening week. The team’s front office must decide whether to act on the suggestion and add a former first‑round talent to an otherwise thin receiving room.
