Fraser Leapt Into St Mirren Captaincy

Marcus Fraser Named New St Mirren Captain

Fraser Accepts Leadership Role

Marcus Fraser, aged 32, has accepted the captain’s armband for St Mirren, describing the appointment as a “jump at the chance.” The defender says he was approached during the week by the manager and coaching staff, who asked if he’d take on the responsibility. “I had a chat during the week with the manager and the coaching staff and they asked me if I’d like to take the role on – and of course, I jumped at the chance,” Fraser said. He added that the club’s confidence since pre‑season has motivated him to repay that trust with performances and helping the new players unite.

Fraser’s comments also highlight a desire to forge an early connection with the manager and coaching staff. “I thanked them and I appreciate it. Since they’ve been in from the end of the season to now, they’ve really backed me and shown faith in me, so I’m just happy and hopefully I can reward them with performances on the pitch and gelling all the new guys together as well.” He went on to note the manager’s questioning throughout pre‑season, saying, “Since the start of pre‑season the manager’s asked me a few questions here and there about different things to ask my opinion about stuff. That’s been good from the players’ point of view and it’s good to get that connection with the manager and coaching staff early.” The statements underscore his commitment to lead both on and off the field as St Mirren prepares for the new campaign.

Transition from Mark O’Hara

The captaincy handover follows Mark O’Hara’s decision to rejoin his first club, Kilmarnock. O’Hara, a midfield veteran, has left St Mirren after a period with the Buddies, returning to the Ayrshire side where he began his career. Fraser steps into the role, aiming to maintain the team’s cohesion and provide consistent leadership. His early engagement with the staff signals a proactive approach to building a united squad for the upcoming season. The shift marks a new chapter for St Mirren’s locker room as they look to combine experienced hands with fresh talent.
