Daniels Takes Over After Transfer Portal Shuffle

Florida State enters its third straight season with a new signal caller, this time a transfer who brings a wealth of experience to the lineup. After competing with Kevin Sperry during spring drills, Daniels earned the starting nod following 15 practice sessions. The move marks another chapter in the program’s rebuilding effort, as the Seminoles look to stabilize the quarterback position.

Daniels’ college résumé includes 23 starts for Auburn and a total of 37 games as a college quarterback. He completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 4,783 yards, 24 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. His accuracy improved markedly, with his interception rate dropping from 3.3 percent at Stanford to 1.7 percent at Auburn. In addition to his passing duties, he has rushed for 1,397 yards and 11 touchdowns over his career.

Why Coach Norvell Chose Daniels

Norvell highlighted Daniels as a versatile talent who can impact the game in multiple ways. He described the player as a “natural playmaker” capable of stretching defenses with his feet while still delivering accurate throws from the pocket. The coach emphasized Daniels’ football IQ, work ethic, and ability to adapt to different offensive systems, noting his quick growth during the spring window.

Norvell’s praise also touched on Daniels’ leadership, noting that when the quarterback speaks, the team listens. He pointed to the player’s passion for the job and his readiness to step in without needing introductory speeches. The coach expressed confidence in Daniels’ upside, suggesting the player still has considerable room for development.

Season Opener vs New Mexico State

The inaugural game for Daniels and the Seminoles is slated for August 29 at Doak Campbell Stadium against the New Mexico State Aggies. This matchup serves as the opening act of the season and the first real test for the new starting quarterback. Fans can expect a contest that will showcase both FSU’s offensive plans and Daniels’ early impact.
