Gotham FC to Move to Etihad Park in 2028

New Home, New Era

Gotham FC will begin playing home matches at Etihad Park, New York City FC’s new stadium, starting with the 2028 season. The initial lease runs for five years with options that could extend the tenure up to 15 years. The agreement secures a private locker room for Gotham and allows the club to flip stadium branding on matchdays using digital signage. This move expands the fan base to more than 3 million additional people within a 75‑minute public‑transport commute.

From Harrison to Queens

Since 2021 Gotham has called Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, its home. The stadium shift follows the club’s $35 million investment in a dedicated training facility in Whippany, NJ, announced last month. The first Etihad Park game will be a high‑profile Queens Classic at Citi Field on July 15 against the Washington Spirit. The opening event has already sold 38,000 tickets, signaling strong local interest. The venue sits steps away from the future home, giving fans a preview of what’s to come.

Community and Leadership Voice

Governor Carolyn Tisch Blodgett emphasized Gotham’s long‑term vision: “From day one, our ambition has been bigger than championships,” she said. “We are building one of the world’s most iconic clubs and helping define the future of women’s sports. Our move to Etihad Park reflects that ambition, and we are deeply grateful to New York City FC for their vision and commitment to helping make this historic moment possible.” Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani added, “From Sam Kerr’s legendary four‑goal comeback to Midge Purce’s championship‑clenching heroics, Gotham FC has given us some of the greatest moments in women’s soccer,” he noted. “Now the next electrifying chapter of that story will be written in New York City. Bringing Gotham FC to Queens means that the young girl kicking a ball around Jackson Heights, Jamaica or the South Bronx will be able to take the train and watch some of the best players in the world in her own city.”

Star Power and Legacy

Sam Kerr’s four‑goal comeback and Midge Purce’s championship‑clinch have become signature moments for Gotham FC, etching the club into women’s soccer history. The relocation adds to that legacy by placing the team in a state‑of‑the‑art facility that will attract elite talent and crowds. With New York City FC’s support, Gotham aims to shape the future of women’s sport and inspire the next generation of athletes. The move signals that the club is positioning itself among the premier destinations for women’s soccer in the United States.
