Lakers summer league Friday: Cameron Carr & Thiero to play

Carr and Thiero Return for Lakers Summer League

Opening Night in Las Vegas

Los Angeles will tip off its NBA summer league schedule in Las Vegas on Friday night, taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. Pacific. The Lakers have already logged time in the California Classic, where Cameron Carr stood out with a barrage of three‑pointers and two thunderous dunks. After a shaky final outing in that tournament, Carr sat out the second half due to a toe issue, but he says the problem is now resolved. Coach Ty Abbott confirmed both Carr and sophomore forward Adou Thiero will be active, a report echoed by ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. The Las Vegas matchup marks Carr’s first appearance in the summer showcase.

Draft Swap and Rookie Outlook

The Lakers originally controlled the 25th pick in this year’s draft, but a trade moved them into the 24th spot owned by the New York Knicks. That acquisition netted the franchise Cameron Carr, who is already being labeled a potential steal among one of the deepest rookie classes in recent memory. The team’s guard depth means a strong summer could earn Carr a rotation role as a rookie, provided his current form carries over to the regular season. Meanwhile, the trade reshuffled the draft board for both franchises involved.

Thiero’s Path and Defensive Upside

Adou Thiero missed the final California Classic game because of a wrist ailment, but he is set to appear in the Las Vegas slate. His sophomore year was hampered by injury problems and limited minutes, leaving his offensive game still quite raw. Thiero can still attack the basket, finish strong, draw fouls and contribute on the boards, however. The 6‑foot‑7, 220‑pound, 22‑year‑old brings high energy and explosive athleticism, traits that give him defensive potential as his career develops. Summer league serves as a key platform for him to showcase those attributes to scouts.
