Tariq Lamptey Joins QPR on Free Transfer

New Signing Brings Experience to Loftus Road

Queens Park Rangers have sealed the arrival of right‑back Tariq Lamptey after his release from Fiorentina. The 25‑year‑old moves on a free transfer, leaving Serie A following a season curtailed by a serious knee injury.

Lamptey started his career at Chelsea, making his Premier League debut against Arsenal before a September 2025 transfer to Brighton for £3 million. He went on to feature in more than 120 games for the Seagulls, building a solid defensive reputation.

His stint in Italy yielded only two appearances because of the knee problem, but he reports that recovery has gone smoothly. “My recovery has gone well and I’m not too far away now. I’m looking forward to joining with the boys,” he said on the QPR website.

International Career and Reputation

The full‑back has earned 11 senior caps for Ghana, appearing at the 2022 World Cup after switching from England, where he had played twice for the under‑21 side. He described his journey as one marked by resilience throughout his football career.

Christian Nourry, QPR’s chief executive, highlighted Lamptey’s ambition: “We’ve had good conversations about what he wants to achieve and how he feels that this is the right environment for him to flourish in.”

Nourry added that Lamptey’s choice of QPR over many other Championship clubs and foreign teams signals the club’s growing potential. Contract figures were not disclosed.

Season Opener

QPR will kick off the new Championship campaign away at Portsmouth on Saturday, 15 August (15:00 BST). Fans expect the new right‑back to be part of a squad aiming for promotion.
