Spain vs Argentina 2026 World Cup Final
MetLife Stadium Host and Its Drawbacks
The championship clash unfolded at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday. The venue is shared by the NFL’s New York Giants and New York Jets, a fact that has long made it a point of contention. Soccer fans now add their voices to the chorus of critics, citing the stadium’s isolation.
Surrounded by parking lots and major highways, events here are frequently labeled logistical nightmares. The site sits roughly 30 minutes from New York City, a distance that can be a deterrent for tourists eager to attend a World Cup final. Some supporters even questioned why Las Vegas’s Allegiant Stadium, another modern facility, was not considered for such a marquee match.
Allegiant Stadium’s Limited Role in 2026
Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, home to the Raiders, holds 65,000 fans and cost almost $2 billion to build over three years, opening in 2020. Its location on the famed Strip makes it an attractive option for visitors, yet its design limits soccer use. The retractable field was engineered for NFL dimensions, leaving the pitch too narrow for official World Cup specifications.
Updating the venue to meet FIFA pitch standards would require more than $100 million, a figure that led both Las Vegas officials and the Raiders to decline hosting duties for the 2026 tournament. The stadium continues to host NFL games, concerts, and events like WrestleMania, but the soccer constraints remain a decisive factor.

Potential Future Host for the U.S.
The 2026 hosts have already decided against Las Vegas, but speculation persists about a possible return in 2038. Should FIFA revisit the United States for another tournament, the Allegiant project could be reconsidered if stadium upgrades become financially viable. Current discussions hint at a possible bid featuring Donald Trump’s interest in bringing the World Cup back to the country.
