Liverpool Closes in on Midfielder as Player Confirms Deal

Curtis Jones Set for Inter Milan Move

Jones Reaches Deal with Inter Milan

English midfielder Curtis Jones has already inked a contract with Inter Milan, according to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian newspaper says the deal includes a draft agreement and suggests Inter will sweeten the offer to around €25‑30 million to persuade Liverpool to sell. Jones is convinced his time in England is finished and is eager to experience a league outside the Premier League for the first time.

His willingness to move appears to be final, with Inter holding a pre‑existing understanding that could become official as soon as Liverpool accept an offer. The €25‑30 million figure is presented as a safer option for the Reds than losing Jones for free when his contract expires in 2026‑27.

Why Liverpool Might Consider Letting Him Go

Liverpool finished fifth in the Premier League last season, prompting a massive summer reshuffle under new boss Andoni Iraola. Iraola has already signalled that many players are on the chopping block, and Jones fits that narrative after limited playing time under Arne Slot. When Jones did feature, he displayed relentless energy and adaptability, performing well as a central midfielder and even at full‑back.

Slot’s occasional mistrust left the Englishman sidelined too often, leading him to reject a new deal and seek a fresh start. Should Iraola follow a similar playing philosophy to Slot, Jones will likely not remain at Anfield beyond the current transfer window. The club’s habit of allowing contracts to run down has also narrowed Liverpool’s options, leaving them with little leverage.

Potential Fallout for Liverpool’s Squad

Even with his contract situation, Jones was one of the Reds’ better performers when given the chance, making over 2,000 touches and completing more than 80 percent of his passes in his appearances. If Liverpool fail to secure a deal now, they risk losing him without any compensation, especially given the £116 million price tag attached to Elliott Anderson, which highlights the club’s broader financial considerations. The loss would also open a midfield slot that rivals are likely to target in the upcoming season.

Retaining Jones could also provide a useful option for Iraola, who may value his work‑rate and versatility. However, unless a mutually agreeable contract extension is reached quickly, the timeline suggests the English star will don Inter’s colours by the summer of 2026‑27. Liverpool fans and observers will watch whether the club can turn this potential exit into a strategic gain elsewhere in the squad.
