Patriots Place Three Players on PUP, NFI Lists
Patriots roster moves ahead of camp
New England Patriots placed three veterans on restricted lists Tuesday, keeping them on the active 90‑man roster while limiting practice participation. Edge defender Harold Landry, a 30‑year‑old 2025 free‑agency pickup, landed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list after missing the offseason workout program and the recent mandatory minicamp with a nagging knee issue. Tight end C.J. Dippre, a 24‑year‑old rookie free agent who spent last season on the practice squad, also joined the PUP list after working as the next man up behind starters Hunter Henry and Jack Westover. Running back Terrell Jennings, a 25‑year‑old third‑year UDFA, moved to the non‑football injury/illness (NFI) list, a designation that covers health concerns unrelated to football.
The PUP and NFI tags prevent the trio from taking part in practice at this stage, but they can be cleared at any point and immediately join teammates on the fields behind Gillette Stadium. Landry’s head coach Mike Vrabel has said the defender has been heavily involved in meetings and workouts and remains in a leadership role, though the team prefers to hold off on spring reps to ensure he is fully ready. Dippre attended minicamp without noticeable limitation, showing he can still contribute at the next‑level tight end spot if given the chance. Jennings, who saw game action last year, carried the ball 23 times for 73 yards and a touchdown while backing up Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
Why these designations matter for depth
Being placed on PUP keeps a player on the roster while they recover from injury, preserving a valuable spot without cutting talent. The NFI list serves the same purpose for non‑football health issues, allowing teams to retain players through training camp. All three remain on New England’s active 90‑man roster, giving the Patriots flexibility to activate them once they are cleared. The move signals that the club values having experienced personnel ready should injuries arise or if they need extra depth during the demanding camp schedule. It also shows the team’s willingness to manage workloads carefully, especially for a defender recovering from a knee problem that nagged him in his first season.
The rest of the Patriots roster will arrive in Foxborough by Friday, with the first practice set for 10:15 a.m. ET the following day. This early roster shake‑up fits a broader pattern of NFL teams using training‑camp periods to evaluate players who missed the offseason program. By keeping Landry, Dippre and Jennings on the active list, the Patriots ensure they can rejoin practice and potentially contribute if needed later in the season. The timing also allows the coaching staff to monitor each player’s progress before making final decisions on the 53‑man roster.
