Real Madrid Eye Adam Wharton for Midfield Boost
Real Madrid have long been linked with strengthening the midfield for Jose Mourinho’s squad. Recent reports suggest the club was not planning any midfield changes, but the possible departure of Eduardo Camavinga could open the door for new signings. In a surprise twist, Spanish outlet Defensa Central claims intermediaries have put Adam Wharton on the table for the Whites.
A Costly Midfield Prospect
The 22‑year‑old Crystal Palace midfielder is being offered to Real Madrid for roughly €120 million. The price tag makes Wharton one of the most expensive Premier League prospects to be linked with the Spanish giants. Madrid have not yet responded to the proposal and no formal decision has been made. The offer is on the table but not an advanced negotiation.
Wharton’s season has turned him into one of England’s standout players. He logged close to 4 000 minutes across 51 matches for Palace, showcasing durability and composure at a high level. Clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have been tracking him for months. Manchester United and Tottenham are also poised to enter the race for his services.
Real’s scouting department has monitored Wharton closely in recent months and sees his profile as a potential fill‑in after the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić. The €120 million price, however, is a significant factor in any deal. Mourinho may want another midfielder, but Madrid cannot simply add another expensive player without freeing up squadspace.
The club’s current roster is already crowded, with Denzel Dumfries still awaiting an official move. Madrid know they must sell before committing another major transfer. Eduardo Camavinga is the most obvious candidate for departure, while Aurelien Tchouameni has also been floated in wider midfield talks. Enzo Fernández has been publicly ruled out by the club, leaving Wharton as another name to watch.
Sales Are Key to the Operation
If Real decide to pursue Wharton, the transfer would need to be handled with discipline. The Englishman is young, talented and proven in the Premier League, but €120 million borders on superstar money. Mourinho could view him as the missing piece to tighten midfield control, yet the financial outlay would be unusual for this summer’s window. A move for Wharton would be a surprise, given Madrid’s recent tendency to balance spending with departures rather than adding another high‑priced asset.
