Artem Dovbyk Set To Leave Roma As Club Explores New Deals
Heading Toward the Exit Door
Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk is unlikely to stay at Roma after being dropped from Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans. He will still attend the July 13 training camp at Trigoria, but the Giallorossi now expect him to move on. The club sees a sale as an opportunity to fund a fresh signing, with Malen earmarked as his potential replacement.
Roma’s financial model requires a deal that delivers immediate cash flow, so a straight loan without wage commitments is off the table. Genoa has submitted an offer but only on a loan basis, which fails to satisfy Roma’s budgetary targets. The Italian side is therefore searching for a more lucrative arrangement.
Genoa’s Offer Meets Resistance
According to Corriere dello Sport, former Roma coach Daniele De Rossi’s contacts have been instrumental in trying to bring Dovbyk to Genoa. De Rossi spoke directly with the player to gauge his preferences, yet the club has now placed a hold on the proposed move. Roma’s stance is that they will not accept a loan that includes a wage‑share from the buyer.
The club’s hierarchy is negotiating a different formula: a loan with an optional purchase clause. Their preferred outcome is a mandatory buy‑out where the acquiring side takes full responsibility for Dovbyk’s salary, ensuring no extra burden on the budget.
Interest Across Europe and Internal Plans
Dovbyk’s profile remains attractive to several clubs, with Villarreal, Real Betis, Turkey’s national team and Germany’s selectors all showing interest. Meanwhile, Roma’s management, led by D’Amico, is waiting for concrete developments before sealing any new agreements. The plan also involves integrating two assets, Scamacca and Tresoldi, both valued at €25 million, into the squad.
With the transfer window approaching, Roma is positioning itself to balance financial stability and on‑field ambitions. The goal is to secure a deal that meets their cash‑flow needs while allowing the Ukrainian forward to find a new club that can fully utilize his talents.
