The asking price is slightly lower than the €53.8m Spurs paid to acquire him from Atalanta back in 2022, after an initial loan spell. Romero, now 28, signed a fresh contract in August 2025, but the relationship with the north London club has deteriorated in recent months. Both the club and the player feel their partnership is at an end, yet a contract running until 2029 means a negotiated settlement is required.

Inter’s Financial Hesitation

Inter have already balked at spending €50m on a younger option, Marco Palestra, so a similar outlay for a seasoned centre‑back seems unlikely.
