Stefon Diggs Declares He’s NFL’s Top No. 2 Receiver

Stefon Diggs Seeks New Team After Patriots Cut Him

Free‑Agency Status

Stefon Diggs is now a free agent after the New England Patriots released him on March 11 in a cost‑cutting maneuver. The move cleared the way for the Patriots to promote A.J. Brown as their clear No. 1 receiver. Diggs, who turned 32 earlier this year, admits he no longer holds that top spot but insists he still ranks above any receiver listed as a team’s No. 2.

In a recent YouTube video, Diggs declared, “I can compete with anybody… You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.” He added that every franchise likely has a designated No. 1 target, yet only seven “real” No. 1s exist across the league. Diggs challenged peers to name a No. 2 and argue he isn’t more valuable.

Top Receiving Duos He Cited

Diggs pointed to several of the NFL’s most balanced attacks to illustrate his point. The Bengals pair Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins form one of the league’s elite combos, while the Cowboys combine CeeDee Lamb with George Pickens. The Rams rely on Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, and the Patriots now lean on Brown and Romeo Doubs. Lions receivers Amon‑Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams also make the list, as do the Vikings’ Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

Statistical résumé

Last season Diggs led the Patriots with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He added 14 receptions for 110 yards and a scoring strike across four playoff contests. Over his career he has eclipsed the 1,000‑yard mark in seven separate seasons. His production underscores a track record that few No. 2 options can match.

Legal clearance and next steps

The NFL concluded its investigation into an assault allegation involving Diggs’ former private chef and found him not guilty in May. Despite the legal resolution, Diggs remains in the market for a new franchise. “I brought myself here… I’ll be fine,” he said, expressing confidence his next opportunity will align with his goals.

As training camp approaches, Diggs’ availability could attract teams seeking a reliable secondary threat. His blend of volume, yards after catch, and postseason performance makes him a compelling option for any club looking to bolster its receiving corps without committing a top‑of‑the‑draft pick.
