UPT20 League to Be Hosted Across Lucknow and Kanpur

Two‑City Format Confirmed

Stakeholders have ended weeks of debate over where Uttar Pradesh’s new cricket league will unfold. The UPCA announced a two‑city arrangement, with Lucknow and Kanpur sharing hosting duties after direction from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The decision caps a series of high‑level meetings that took place in Delhi.

Opening Ceremony and Final Venues Set

The league’s kickoff will be staged at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, while the championship match will take place at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Both venues have been chosen for their capacity to handle large crowds and existing infrastructure. The allocation reflects a strategic split between the two cities.

Match Distribution Across the Two Cities

Approximately 34 matches are slated for the tournament. Ekana Stadium is slated to host 20 to 22 games during the first phase, covering the bulk of the league schedule. Green Park Stadium will accommodate the remaining 10 to 12 fixtures in the second phase, when monsoon intensity is expected to diminish.

Why Lucknow Leads the First Phase

Lucknow’s early phase was prioritized because August typically brings heavy rainfall to Uttar Pradesh. Ekana Stadium’s modern drainage system makes it better suited for rain‑interrupted play and prevents waterlogging. The shift to Kanpur later in the season aligns with a projected easing of monsoon activity.

Official Statement

UPCA secretary Prem Manohar Gupta said the choice considered weather and logistics after thorough analysis. “Finally, a decision has been made that the prestigious league will be held across two cities as per the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath. Around 20 to 22 matches will be played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, while 10 to 12 matches will be held at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. We have considered all factors, including weather conditions,” Gupta noted.
